In about 1960s, Chemstrand was one of the companies which tried to find new materials for the surface of some sports grounds which could allow athletes to play some sports like football. And Chemstrand, being one of the famous companies in that decade, was the pioneer in the invention process. They invented a kind of material and they named it ‘tough carpeting’. After the invention, they received offer from Ford Foundation. This company wanted to find artificial materials for sports surfaces and they appreciated the work of Chemstrand so they cooperated with Chemstrand to find the suitable materials for the urban sport surfaces. Actually, many people in that decade found that it was hard for them to enjoy the sports activities because the stadiums were not equipped with the suitable grasses. People could not play the sports such as football in a piece of grassland and this affected their incentive to participate in the game. This was the reason why Chemstrand and Ford Foundation worked together to invent the artificial grass. In 1964, they succeeded in providing the artificial grass for users. Moses Brown School which was located in Rhode Island in the USA was the first place which used the synthetic grasses. Since then, schoolchildren could use the grass area to play the sports and enjoy their life. And in 1966, the companies inventing the artificial grass further improved the quality of the grass and renamed it as “AstroTurf”. And it received order from the Houston Astrodome, which was a famous sports group. Since then, more and more people realize the benefits that they could enjoy by the artificial grass and they all tried to look for the artificial grass manufacturers and install the grass in schools and sports stadium.
